Dalmatia is the easiest place to get your first real taste of sailing: the islands sit 10–20 miles apart, the afternoon breeze is steady and every evening ends at a town quay or on a mooring buoy in a quiet bay. We sail a chartered yacht with a skipper around the loop Split — Brač — Hvar — Vis — Korčula and back to Split. It suits people who want to try the helm and the sails without committing to night passages.

   DAY 1 · Handover and briefing

   Check-in and boat handover in Split

   We meet at Marina Kaštela at 17:00, take over the yacht, check the rig and stock up for the first days. In the evening: safety briefing, watch rota and dinner on Split’s waterfront by Diocletian’s Palace.

   DAY 2 · 12 nautical miles

   Split to Milna on Brač

   A short first leg: out of Kaštela Bay, sails up in the Split Channel and after 12 miles we enter the sheltered harbour of Milna. We practise tacks and gybes and learn to read the wind on the water.

   DAY 3 · 14 nautical miles

   Milna to Hvar

   Down the west coast of Brač, lunch at anchor off the Pakleni islands, then into Hvar. In the evening we walk up to the Španjola fortress for a view over the whole archipelago and tomorrow’s route to Vis.

   DAY 4 · 22 nautical miles

   Hvar to Vis across open water

   A 22-mile crossing over open Adriatic — the week’s best sailing, with the afternoon maestral giving a steady 12–18 knots. We arrive at Komiža or Vis town and stroll through a place that was a closed military base until 1989.

   DAY 5 · 30 nautical miles

   Biševo, Stiniva and on to Korčula

   The dinghy takes us into the Blue Cave on Biševo in the morning, then we swim in the narrow cove of Stiniva on the south of Vis. A longer 30-mile leg east brings us to Korčula and its town marina under the medieval walls.

   DAY 6 · 18 nautical miles

   Korčula to a night at anchor off Šćedro

   An easy day: 18 miles along Hvar’s south coast to the uninhabited island of Šćedro. We anchor for the night in Lovišće bay, cook dinner on board and get a sky with no lights at all.

   DAY 7 · 28 nautical miles

   Stari Grad and back to Split

   We round the western tip of Hvar, stop for lunch at Stari Grad, Croatia’s oldest town, and sail the last 20 miles to Kaštela — a chance to bring the boat home yourself with the skipper watching.

   DAY 8 · Check-out

   Boat return and departure

   We hand the yacht back by 09:00 and wrap up the week over breakfast. Transfer to Split airport or the bus station.
